I’m sure you make every Mother’s Day special for the special woman in your life, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make it a little more special. If you’re still scrambling for last minute, outside of the box ideas, I threw together a compilation of intriguing options to make Mother’s Day one you’ll never forget. Let’s face it, you probably haven’t spent too many Mother’s Days at a mystery theater. I know I haven’t…but I’m realizing I probably should have. 😉

 

 

Legume
Legume will be open on Sunday, May 14 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for a special Mother’s Day dinner. Enjoy their farm to table dishes, and famous cocktails. Reservations can be made online.

Mystery Theatre Pittsburgh
In honor of Mother’s Day, Pittsburgh’s Mystery Theatre is hosting a very special Mother’s Day themed murder mystery dinner.  Tickets are $37.50 per person, and include a dinner buffet of chicken florentine, sausage and meatballs, pasta marinara, parsley potato, green beans, tossed salad, ice cream, soft drinks, coffee, and a cash bar. Tickets can be purchased online.

Talia Cucina & Rosticceria
Talia, the new Italian Rosticceria Downtown, is debuting their brunch menu on Mother’s Day!  Guests will be treated to live music, pasta dishes like carbonara, Italian brunch specials, and – last but not least – a tabletop bloody mary bar.  If you can’t make it this Mother’s Day, Talia will be serving brunch every Sunday in the future. The Frick Cafe & Gardens
The beautiful garden cafe on the grounds of the Frick historical mansion is the perfect spot for Mother’s Day brunch.  Enjoy their fresh, seasonal menu in a picturesque setting.  After the meal, be sure to stroll through the gardens, or reserve a tour of the Clayton mansion.  Reservations can be made by calling (412) 371-0600.

The Neighborhood Flea: Mother’s Day Edition
The Neighborhood Flea is returning for a special, Mother’s Day edition market. This pop up marketplace offers food trucks, baked goods, coffee, vintage wares, handmade goods, furniture, music and more in the Strip. More information can be found online.

Annual Mother’s Day Afternoon High Tea at Arnold’s Tea Pittsburgh
Once again, Arnold’s is hosting their annual Mother’s Day tea. Enjoy delicious tea and treats in a warm environment. Tickets can be purchased online.

Smallman Galley
This is one of the few brunchs left with the original Smallman Galley chefs.  Stop through on Mother’s Day to enjoy treats from Carota Cafe, Provision, Aubergine Bistro, Josephine’s Toast.  As always, enjoy drinks from Smallman’s famous cocktail list.

Mother’s Day Wine Walk
On the Saturday before Mother’s Day, Uncover Squirrel Hill is hosting another self-guided wine tasting in the Squirrel Hill business district. Take mom out and educate her on wine!  Over 15 businesses are participating.  Tickets are $20 per person, or $35 for two, and can be purchased online.

Ember & Vine
The newly renovated Ember & Vine restaurant in Cranberry is hosting a delicious Mother’s Day brunch. As they say, “Treat Mom. We’ll handle the cooking.” Enjoy a giant menu with dishes like red velvet pancakes, carved sirloin, and omelet station, and much more!  More information can be found online.

Mom’s The Word Pup-friendly event at Wigle Whiskey
Wigle Whiskey is hosting a mom and pup friendly event at their Northside barrelhouse on Mother’s Day. There will be a mom and pup photo booth, a food truck, and (of course) delicious libations. More information can be found online.

Race for the Cure
Pittsburgh’s 25th annual Race for the Cure will be held on Mother’s Day in Schenley Park.  Whether you want to run in the race, or just donate, there are plenty of ways to help to the Susan G. Komen foundation this Mother’s Day. More information can be found online.

Tea Blending at Tupelo Honey Teas
Tupelo is doing first come, first serve, custom tea blending sessions on Sunday, May 14th, from 12-3 pm. Stop in and make a custom blend with/for mom. More information can be found online.

Mother’s Day Brunch with Gluten Free Goat and Reed & Co
The Gluten Free Goat and Reed & Co are teaming up for a first come, first serve, Mother’s Day brunch at the The Gluten Free Goat in Garfield. They will be serving Reed & Cos tasty fresh pressed juices, and there will be complimentary mimosas with certain menu items.  More information can be found online.

Slope Side Brunch at Seven Springs Resort
Enjoy brunch with a view at Seven Springs Mountain Resort in honor of this special day. There will be an expanded seafood selection including Maine lobster tails, and oysters. This funky gallery in Homestead still has reservations available for their BYOB brunch later in the day on Mother’s Day!  Be immersed in local artist Baron Batch’s work, and enjoy delicious food by Chef Steve.
